Necessity for registration (registration of a place of residence)

An important fact is that, according to the requirements of the legislation, during 1 month from the date of obtaining a temporary residence permit, it is necessary to register a temporary place of residence (put a residence permit). After all, if the foreigner does not register within the specified period, the residence permit will be considered invalid until such registration. Extension of a temporary residence permit in Ukraine

Important! Changes! Until June 2018, the extension of a residence permit in Ukraine was carried out by submitting a package of documents to the State Migration Service (OVIR) with further affixing a mark on the extension in the residence permit itself and the foreigner's passport. Since June 2018, the concept of extending a temporary residence permit has been canceled. With the new rules temporary residence in Ukraine is subject to exchange. The old residence permit, upon renewal (exchange), is surrendered and a new one is issued in return.

Ukraine extends (exchanges) a temporary residence permit if there are grounds for its exchange for a period from six months to 3 years, depending on the grounds. Below is information on how to extend a residence permit in Ukraine on the basis of a work permit.

Before extending a residence permit on the basis of employment, it is first necessary to extend the work permit, and only then documents will submitted to the State Migration Service (OVIR) for the extension (exchange) of the residence permit. This nuance must be taken into consideration through calculating the timing, since documents for the extension of a temporary residence permit are submitted no later than 15 working days before its expiration.
